Thinking Well This Holiday Season

Most people can appreciate the added stress the holidays bring.  However, very few people do anything different to alleviate their extra holiday stress.  Here are a few tips to help you think well this holiday season:

1.  Set realistic expectations- Experience the holidays a little overtime during the entire season.
2.  Leave the past behind- No dwelling on the good old days.  It is okay to have good memories, but do not live there.  Embrace change and focus on the positive things you have now.
3.  Donate your time- Volunteering and helping others always makes us feel good.
4.  Try creative- no cost activities.
5.  Exercise- Study after study shows that working out has psychological benefits.  Don't worry about what your doing, get anything in.  As our Wellness Coach Linda says, "Your heart is in a dark chamber, it does not know what you are doing to increase your heart rate".  Walk the malls, dance around your house, or go sledding.
6.  Avoid overspending-  It is fun to give but think about what you remember most about the holidays.  It is the time you spend with friends and family whether those times were good or bad.
7.  Keep time for yourself-  This is tough for a lot of people but it is important to do things you enjoy.  It will make other things you may not enjoy more tolerable.
8.  Say positive affirmations-  This can feel silly, especially when we do not believe the things we are saying.  However, our subconscious mind does not know that they are not true.  Once you say them enough you will start to believe them.  You will notice your mood starts to improve and you react to the world differently.

When all else fails take a deep breath in, exhale and repeat.  Happy Holidays!!!!
